Divine Science University Meeting, September 23, 2026

Divine Science University held a meeting September 23, 2026, gathering at 4:50 and opening at 5:06 PM with the invitation song Teach Your Children by Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young.  Opening activities then followed with reviewing our mission statement, opening intention and a relaxing breathing exercise.

At 5:12 PM we reviewed the activities of DSU Colleges.  SOW reported that publication of The Gathas continues.  Carmine Connection and ONE-TLC reports that grounds improvements continue.  CSI Rewind has taken the summer off from new publications.  Other colleges reported their activities as well.  

At 5:15 PM we reviewed the Fall Equinox celebration and results of our planning session.

At 5:22 PM John presented The Virgo Constellation pointing out that also known as the Maiden or Virgin, Virgo is the second-largest constellation in the sky covering about 3% of the celestial sphere. Its most striking feature is Spica, a brilliant blue-white star that ranks the 15th–16th brightest in the night sky. Spica is actually a binary system of two hot, massive stars orbiting each other in roughly four days.

Spica means “ear of grain,” reflecting the constellation’s traditional depiction of a maiden holding wheat.

 

Spica is easy to locate: follow the arc of the Big Dipper’s handle to Arcturus (in Boötes), then continue the curve (“arc to Arcturus, then spike to Spica”).  Virgo is exceptionally rich in galaxies because it hosts the Virgo Cluster. This nearby cluster (~50–65 million light-years away) contains roughly 1,300–2,000 galaxies and produces one of the densest concentrations of galaxies visible in the sky.  The constellation also hosts many stars with known exoplanets and a few meteor showers (e.g., the Virginids). 

In short, Virgo’s prominence comes from its vast size, the beacon-like Spica, its status as a zodiacal and equinox marker, and above all its extraordinary collection of galaxies in the Virgo Cluster. Mythologically, it represents a maiden or virgin, most often linked to mythological harvest and justice figures.
